A government fund to assist multiple sclerosis patients in New Brunswick receive medical services outside the province - including the controversial liberation therapy - is up and running. The announcement makes New Brunswick the only province to provide funding to help people undergo liberation treatment abroad. But despite the roll out of the $250,000 program, a champion for the liberation treatment in New Brunswick said the fund doesn't go far enough.
The provincial government announced Wednesday that patients who qualify for the fund will be eligible for a one-time grant up to a maximum of $2,500, which then must be matched by a fundraising organization or another third party. Fredericton resident John McLaughlin said the money helps, but doesn't address the need to have the treatment available in Canada or make the treatment available to all New Brunswickers.
